    PCM’s Importance

  • PCM Certification Basic Requirements

    To be eligible for PCM certification, you must meet certain educational and professional experience requirements before applying. You must have either:

    • A bachelor’s degree (or global equivalent) and 2 years of professional marketing experience
    • (OR) A master’s degree (or global equivalent) and 1 years of professional marketing experience


    PCM Exam Basic Requirements

    If you meet the education and experience requirements above and your application is approved, you must pass the PCM certification exam in order to become PCM certified. If you do not yet meet the experience requirements you may sit for the PCM certification exam, however, you will not become officially certified until proof of eligibility is submitted and approved by the AMA. You will have up to four years to meet the experience requirement. Please submit proof of eligibility statements to pcmi@ama.org

    About the PCM Exam Ethics

    You will be prompted at exam registration to read the Statement of Ethical Norms and Values, indicating you agree with the terms. To be eligible for PCM certification, you must adhere and be committed to ethical professional conduct. You may also be asked to re-verify your adherence at the testing center prior to starting your exam.

    PCM Exam Content and Structure:

    A brief tutorial on how to use online exam testing system will be available on the Pearson Vue website to familiarize candidates with the process. Candidates will have 3 hours in one sitting to complete the exam. The PCM Certification Exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions. Each question contains five choices, only one of which is the correct or best answer. You will have the ability to go back to, to review, or to change your responses to all questions before submitting your PCM exam for scoring.

    PCM Exam Schedule and Locations

    The exam is given online at a Pearson VUE Test Center during pre-set two-month testing windows. If a candidate does not pass the exam another exam must be purchased; eligibility for retest begins the next testing window (there are 4 weeks in between testing windows).

    Application Steps

    To apply and register for the PCM exam, you must apply and register and pay for the test on the following link: http://www.takemytest.com/ama. Once your application has been approved, you will receive instructions for scheduling your PCM Exam. The exam fee is $300 for AMA members and $500 for nonmembers. As a reminder, once your application has been approved, you will have 90 days to complete the exam at a Pearson VUE testing site.
