HRMP Certification Basic Requirements
Candidates taking the HRMP certification must demonstrate their knowledge of employment laws to be eligible, this can include:
- Holding a local or national HR certification that covers Employment Law
- Holding a Bachelor’s degree (or global equivalent) or higher in Human Resources
- Completing a college or university-level course in Employment Law
- Completing an education or training program in Employment Law
HRMP Exam Basic Requirements
Not just anyone can become an HRMP. Why? Because HRMP is a very specific professional designation and a badge of excellence. And so to qualify to take the exam you need one of the below:
- Minimum of 4 years professional-level experience in an HR position with a Master’s degree or global equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years of professional-level experience in an HR position with a bachelor’s degree or global equivalent.
- Minimum of 7 years of professional-level experience in an HR position with a less than a bachelor’s degree.
HRMP recertification Requirements
HRMP recertification is required every three years by the expiration date of your current certification. Designees may recertify by documenting 60 recertification credit hours over that three-year period or by retaking the exam.
HRMP Exam Content and Structure:
The HRMP exam assesses more advanced knowledge of the HR field in four functional areas:
- HR as a Business Leader (32%)
- People Development & Talent Management (29%)
- HR Service Delivery (23%)
- Measurement (16%)
The HRMP Exam is a Computer-based Testing (CBT) and is composed of 130 questions (105 scored questions, 25 pre-test questions). The exam is 2 hours 30 minutes in length.

Testing is offered at more than 250 Prometric testing centers in the U.S. and Canada, and 116 internationally.
